ABSENTEE BIDDING

As the name suggests an absentee bid is one that allows a potential purchaser to participate in an auction without being physically present.

There are two distinct and different types of Absentee Bid:

Commission Bid

A Commission Bid (or Written Absentee Bid as it is also known) is one whereby you give the Auctioneer written authorisation to bid on your behalf up to a certain set limit. The Auctioneer will always to try to obtain the lot as cheaply as possible whilst taking into account the reserve price and other bids. Please be aware that we cannot exceed your set limit.

Example: You leave a commission bid authorising the Auctioneer to bid on your behalf up to a set limit of £30,000. The Auctioneer has been moving in £1,000 increments and the last bid was £20,000. The Auctioneer will then go to £21,000 on your behalf and provided this bid (a) exceeds the reserve figure and (b) goes unchallenged then you will have purchased the lot.

Please note that a Commission Bid is the only kind of Absentee Bid you can use for Automobilia lots estimated at less than £1,000.

Before completing the Commission Bid form please ensure that you have read and agree to our Terms and Conditions as these will govern the contract between us if you are successful in purchasing a lot(s).

Telephone Bid

A Telephone Bid is one whereby you request that an H&H staff member is on the telephone to you while a given lot (or lots) goes under the hammer. The H&H staff member acts as your agent during the conversation and allows you to participate in the live bidding.

We undertake Telephone Bids at our own expense. Staff members will endeavour to call you well in advance of your chosen lot. However, this may not always be possible. Our auctions are held at specially hired venues and we rely on temporary installed landlines and mobile telephones to conduct Telephone Bids. As such we cannot guarantee to execute your Telephone Bid.

This method of Absentee Bidding is not available for Automobilia lots estimated at less than £1,000

Before completing the Telephone Bid form please ensure that you have read and agree to our Terms and Conditions as these will govern the contract between us if you are successful in purchasing a lot(s).

Due to the delicate nature of many Automobilia items it is recommended that a recognised carrier be used to pack and transport them. If a purchaser has any specific shipping requirements then they should inform the Automobilia department within 48 hours of the notification by us that they have been successful. Otherwise lots will be dealt with according to our standard terms under which the items will be taken to our recommended shippers within five working days of the sale. Our recommended shippers are Mailboxes Etc.

If you require any further information about placing a bid or indeed any other aspect of our auction service please do not hesitate to contact us.
