H&H was founded by Simon Hope (pictured) and Mark Hamilton in 1993 as a specialist auction house dedicated solely to the sale of collectors' vehicles. Convinced that they could offer a better standard of service than their established generalist and fine art opposition - but at a considerably lower cost to both buyer and seller alike - Hope and Hamilton put together a business model which has sustained the company’s impressive growth ever since.
The first person to sell a motor car through H&H paid commission at the rate of just 5% + VAT. Some two decades on the firm has evolved to the point where its client database houses over 45,000 records worldwide and its annual marketing budget runs to many hundreds of thousands of pounds. However, those who sell motor cars through H&H today are still charged the same low 5% + VAT.
H&H has had the pleasure of handling everything from 1890s London to Brighton runners through to 1990s Formula 1 cars not to mention a variety of iconic motorcycles and holds a considerable number of world record auction prices. The company is staffed by hands-on enthusiasts and its specialist valuers are among the most knowledgeable in the industry.
Following Mark Hamilton’s retirement during 2007 the firm moved to larger premises and now offers a range of private sales and storage services in addition to its core auction business. The H&H ethos has always been one of transparency, professionalism and client service.
