Introduced in 1993, the Peugeot 306 was a replacement for the 309. It shared the same platform as the Citroen ZX (another PSA product) and during its nine-year reign was available in Hatchback, Saloon, Estate and Cabriolet guise. It was powered by a multiplicity of petrol and diesel engines and offered with a bewildering array of trim options. The independent suspension was by MacPherson strut at the front and trailing arm and torsion bars at the rear. Interesting technicalities included passive rear wheel steering and the rearward canting of the engines to keep the centre of gravity low and put as much weight behind the front axle line as possible. The 306XS was a sporting variant powered by a 1587cc four-cylinder petrol engine and equipped with such niceties as front fog lights, body-coloured bumpers, deep front spoiler, and sports seats and steering wheel etc.

Featured on the front cover of 'Extreme Peugeot 306, the definitive guide to modifying', this particular right-hand drive 306XS was on static display at the renowned Haynes Motor Museum from June 2003 to October 2009. The very car that Haynes based its manual upon, 'R580 PVC' sports a full Ecosse-Peugeot bodykit finished in a particularly striking shade of Gold, 17-inch 1000 Miglia-branded wheel rims, quad headlamps, and Touring Car-style single wiper and DTM mirrors. The drilled pedals, white-faced instrument dials and a sports wheel give the apparently immaculate interior a suitably purposeful air. The Peugeot's notably comprehensive specification further includes: K&N air filter and cat-back stainless steel exhaust by J.P. Exhausts of Macclesfield with Peco Back Box; an OMP strut brace and Spax suspension kit; grooved brake discs; Corbeau bucket seats and Safety Devices full-harness seat belts; Alpine stereo head unit and Sony amplifier; Cat1 alarm and tracker; rust proofing etc. 'R580 PVC' is described by the vendor as being in "very good" condition with regard to its bodywork, engine, and gearbox, while he rates the paintwork and interior trim as "good". This striking-looking 'street fighter' will possess a fresh MOT and six months' road fund licence by the time of sale.
